Many haulers incorporate two types of fees into their invoices that can be automated using CurbWaste: Fuel Fees and Handling Fees.
- Fuel Fees are a way to pass along the cost of fuel to the customer by charging them an additional fee on top of their existing invoice and can be set up as a flat rate or percentage-based rate.
- Handling Fees are used as a way to pass along the cost of processing credit card payments to the customer by charging them an additional fee on top of their existing invoice and can be set up as a flat or percentage-based rate.
What are my options for configuration?
Fuel Fees and Handling Fees can be set up in the following ways:
- Percentage of the invoice subtotal, including the haul, tonnage, and additional charges
- Percentage of just the haul
- Flat dollar amount
1. Percentage of the invoice subtotal, including the haul, tonnage, and additional charges
To set up Fuel Fees and/or Handling Fees as a percentage of the invoice subtotal, you will need to enable these fees in your Payment Policy.
On the invoice, the fees will be displayed near the total. You will have the option of toggling them off prior to sending to your customer or receiving payment.
2. Percentage of just the haul
This option pertains more to Fuel Fees than to Handling Fees. Some haulers charge Fuel Fees only on the price of the haul, not including the tonnage/overage. To set this up, you would simply create an Additional Charge with a percentage pricing type.

You can then add this Fuel Fee as an Additional Charge on your orders or invoices. As you can see below, the Fuel Fee is only calculating off of the haul and does not include the additional charge in its calculation.
3. Flat dollar amount
Similar to the above section, if you want to set up Fuel Fees or Handling Fees as a flat dollar amount, the best way to do so is by using Additional Charges. Follow the same steps as above but instead of selecting Percentage as the Pricing Type, select Flat.
Automation
For options 2 & 3 from above, you also have the ability to automatically apply the Fuel/Handling Fee Additional Charge to newly created orders. To do so, please take a look at the Additional Charges article and scroll down to the Auto-apply Additional Charges section.
